Director’s Corner – January

January 29, 2015 By Matt Miller

Umuganda

2014-10-vva-newsletter-DirectorHeadShotThe new year and our second semester at VVA are off to a great start!  You may have noticed that there is a lot more activity at VVA as we have welcomed 7 new students to our school. We are grateful that so many parents are choosing VVA as a place for their children to develop and grow.

Our core values at VVA are excellence, service, and character.  We want our students to excel so they can be equipped to serve as leaders for Rwanda and the world.  On January 17th, our Student Service Council, along with help from some of our 2ndand 6th graders, were able to participate in a community work day in Mubona Primary School in Muhoza Sector helping a community to prepare for the building of six new primary school classes.  Talking about the experience, VVA 9th Grader Aidan Miller said, “It was great to work hard and see the smiles on people’s faces when they saw that we were there to help.”  A core concept of our school is that we are blessed with opportunities to learn not only to improve ourselves, but also to be a blessing to others.

Finally, I am excited to share that we have begun the process of buying land for our school!  We have signed a contract to purchase a plot of land near the Muhe River on the national road that we believe will be a wonderful place for our school to be established and grow.  When you have a chance, please ask me about the story behind this land and God’s hand in providing it for us.  I pray for God’s blessing on everyone in the VVA community in 2015!

VVA Community Festival

2014-10-vva-newsletter-DirectorHeadShotWe have come to the close of our first semester at VVA, and I would like to thank all of our parents, teachers, and staff for everything that each of you have done to contribute to the successful start of our school. The moments we have shared together such as our open house and the VVA festival are a picture of what we want our school to be. We want VVA to be a blessing to our community and a place where many people can come together and get to know one another better. It is our hope that the VVA community will continue to grow and bless more and more people.

With this in mind, I would like to invite everyone in the VVA community to join together in praying for God to direct us to a piece of land that we can purchase to be the long-term home of our school. We are in the process of praying for God to touch the hearts of people who have a vision for Christian education and the development of Musanze to join in financially supporting our dream. We look forward to sharing with you the story of God’s provision in the coming months!

It is my hope that each of you will enjoy the upcoming Christmas and New Years break. What a blessing that God loved us so much that he sent his one and only son in the form of a baby to show us how to live and to sacrifice his life for us! I pray that you will enjoy the blessings of God and time with family over the next few weeks. We look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015!

Director’s Corner – November

2014-10-vva-newsletter-DirectorHeadShotIt is hard to believe that we have already reached and passed the mid-point of our first semester! I would like to thank all of the parents who have entrusted your children to us here at VVA. It is our greatest desire that your children be equipped to excel academically, to serve their communities, and to grow in character and wisdom. We are working to constantly improve and develop our school, and I would like to share with you some exciting things that have taken place over the past month.

In October, we had the honor of being accepted for membership in the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). ACSI offers us assistance in curriculum development, professional development for teachers, recruiting of teachers, and assessment and testing, just to name a few things. We are thankful for this new partnership that will help us to better serve our students and community. We have also developed a partnership with the Kigali International Community School (KICS), an American International School in Kigali, which allows our teachers and administration to participate in their professional development trainings. This past Friday, all of our teachers attended training in Kigali on educational philosophy and school development.

We are also able to offer US advance placement and college entrance exams through KICS. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our school and the level of education we can offer your children. We are so thankful to have you as a part of the VVA community, and look forward to seeing you at our VVA Open House on Sunday, Nov. 16th at 2:30!

Director’s Corner – October

2014-10-vva-newsletter-DirectorsCorner

2014-10-vva-newsletter-DirectorHeadShotThe first month of VVA is now in the history books, and I would like to take a moment to thank the entire VVA community for helping us get off to a great start! Parents, thank you for entrusting your children to us and for being quick to respond whenever we have called a meeting, asked for your input, or given you a form to sign. Teachers, you are the heart of our school and your creativity, commitment, and service to our students is a beautiful example of the love of Jesus. Staff, you are the “behind the scenes” workers who keep our school running smoothly. Together, we have all been a part of creating something new that will be a blessing to our community and the city of Musanze for many years.

The core values of VVA are excellence, service, and character. Our vision is to become the premiere international school in northern Rwanda, laying an academic foundation for students to succeed in university studies, preparing students for service in their communities, and facilitating student’s spiritual growth and character development. My hope is that you as parents have already been able to see these core values in action in our school. Our concern is in the development of your children as whole people who are able to contribute to the positive growth and development of this beautiful country in which we all live and serve. It is an honor to work along side of all of you as we seek the wellbeing and future of your children and Rwanda! ~ Matt Miller
